It was an AWA project to produce a competitor for the Midland Syntech 1 series. Both used Hitachi synthesiser and Rx boards. AWA sourced these direct from Hitachi in Japan. AWA produced their own PA assembly in Oz. The location of SOME info in the Z-273 module in the RT-85 differs from the Midland. Also the RT-85 only supports one scan group. There are other subtle non-physical differences. Etc etc. And it was sold by AWA which evolved into EXICOM on the split up of AWA into it's variuos sections. The RT85-C model was a Sybtech 1 with a different remote head interface and "EXICOM " labelled front on the tranceiver case, still had the Midland FCC model plate though. Sam
